Loveless The protagonist of the series is a twelve year old boy Aoyagi Ritsuka, who lost his memory two years ago. The only person who loved and cared about Ritsuka was his older brother Seimei, but after Seimei's mysterious death Ritsuka is left all alone, with an exception of his mentally ill mother.

Ritsuka transferres to a new school, when he meets Agatsuma Soubi. Soubi, first introduced as a friend of Seimei, claims he was Seimei's "Fighter". To Ritsuka's surprise, Soubi says he would now fight for Ritsuka and serve him.
