In case you haven't heard, Mass Effect is a science fiction role-playing game series. The plot centers around a starship Commander Shepard and his/her (depending upon the player's choice) mission to save the Galaxy from a biomechanical race of the Reapers. According to the official website of the first game, "The galaxy is trapped in an endless cycle of extinction. Every 50,000 years, an ancient machine race invades the galaxy. With ruthless efficiency, the machines wipe out all advanced organic civilization. They leave behind only the scattered ruins of technology, destroying all evidence of their own existence. Few believe this ancient legend. You, however, know it to be true. The fight to stop this extinction event has become the most important mission in the galaxy."

Know nothing about fanlistings? A fanlisting is simply an online list of fans of a subject, such as a TV show, actor, or musician, that is created by an individual and open for fans from around the world to join. They are a way to show your love or support. The only requirements to join a fanlisting are your name and country.

To link back to a fanlisting you've joined, you can use small images called codes or buttons. Codes/buttons are placed on your own personal website and are linked back to the fanlisting so that other people may see the code and know that you are a fan. Mass Effect (the series)

Mass Effect cover The first Mass Effect game, developed by BioWare, was released on Xbox 360 in November 2007 and for Windows in May 2008. It takes place in the year 2183. Shepard, an executive officer of the Normandy starship, becomes a Spectre (an elite agent under the Special Tactics and Reconnaissance) and confronts other Spectre Saren Arterius, who had betrayed good guys and tried to help Reapers during their invasion of the Galaxy. Shepard eventually defeats Saren, prevents destruction of the Citadel, a galactic capital, and, optionally, saves the Galactic Council.

Mass Effect 2 cover

A sequel, Mass Effect 2, was released on January 2010, and takes place two years later. The game sees Shepard fighting the Collectors, an alien race abducting entire human colonies. It is subsequently revealed that Collectors are working for the Reapers, so Shepard confronts the machines once again and saves the Galaxy for the second time. How generous of our brave soldier. ;)

Mass Effect 3, the final installment of the franchise and the final chapter in the story, was released on March 6, 2012. Mass Effect 3 cover It features improved combat system, new squad mates, multiplayer co-op mode and weapon customization system. The game starts six months after the events of the previous game and concludes the struggle against the Reapers. Shepard one way or another defeats the Reapers by using a super-weapon called the Crucible. At the end Shepard can choose one of the three options: to control the Reapers, destroy all synthetic life including the Reapers and synthesize all organic and synthetic life together, creating a new life form.

The series have received wide critical acclaim, especially Mass Effect 2, which was called "the Avatar of video games" and "everything what people have wanted".

Thane Krios, voiced by Keythe Farley, is introduced in Mass Effect 2 as a deadly assassin from the Reptilian-like Drell race. He becomes a member of Commander Shepard's squad. The Drell are green reptile-like humanoids with an average lifespan of 85 galactic standard years. Their appearance is very similar to humans, but their big black eyes are equipped with double eyelids because they adapted to a planet with low humidity.

According to the Mass Effect 2 official website,
...Thane is a warrior-monk. He is stoic, collected, and very spiritual. He ardently believes in his religious path and its accompanying rites and prayers. From Thane's perspective, his body is the weapon wielded by his employers, however he does not believe in killing indiscriminately. Once his services were up to the highest bidder, but something happened; something changed him. Now he has shifted his professional philosophy; he no longer takes contracts for pay, but rather he chooses his targets based on his moral and religious beliefs.

The Drell emerged from dry, rocky deserts on the barren world of Rakhana, but most of them now live on the ocean-covered planet Kahje, because the Industrial Revolution destroyed their homeworld eight centuries ago. They were saved by the race of Hanar, who transported hundreds of thousands of drell to the hanar world, Kahje. Infortunately the remaining billions left on Rakhana were doomed. Those Drell who survived integrated themselves into the Hanar society, although due to the long-term exposure to this new humid climate they often develop the so-called Kepral's Syndrome. This syndrome erodes the ability of drell lungs to take in oxygen, and eventually spreads out to other organs. It is incurable and fatal. Right at the beginning of Mass Effect 2, Thane confesses that he has this illness.

Thane also has eidetic memory, which means that his memories are very vivid and detailed. He remembers every assassination he has ever performed and can describe them in flawless detail. He is also a powerful biotic which is very useful in combat. He is rumoured to be the deadliest assassin in the entire Galaxy. Unlike most assassins who use sniper rifles and kill their targets from a distance, Thane likes to engage in close combat and deliver the last blow with his own hands. Despite such an unusual approach, Thane is always cool and composed. He is always honest with others and, most importantly, with himself. He holds himself with dignity, and his face is always thoughtful, focused, even emotionless. Thane is equally strong at stealth, firearms and his biotic abilities.
