The series

The Qin Empire (大秦帝国, Da Qin Di Guo) is a chinese historical drama series, aired in 2007. It consists of 51 episodes, released on 4 DVDs. The drama is based on the book Black Split (黑色裂变), the first part of the The Qin Empire novel by Sun Haohui.

The plot is set during the Warring States Period in China, when the ruler Xiao of Qin with the help of legalist philosopher Shang Yang made a set of political reforms to strengthen Qin. These reforms helped to turn Qin into a powerful and strongly centralized kingdom.
